Dear GHSC,
This time of year is filled with scholastic events and so much more. In fact, there is somewhere that each of our coaches needs to be next Monday. My apologies! This has never happened before where all coaches could not be available. Due to our necessary absences we must cancel practice Monday, 5/20. Again, very sorry. We will see you on deck. Coach Hamm Okay GHSC, Monday is day 1. Yippee! Let's get wet.
Monday at 6 all new team members should prepare to show us their stuff. We will begin with a short conversation about coaching, team, rules, etc. Then hit the showers. Then each athlete will have to demonstrate the ability to swim at least 2 lengths of the pool. We do not require speed, perfection or exceptional determination. We DO require, feeling relaxed in the pool, being strong enough to progress down the pool without panicking nor stopping, and a willingness to listen and learn. We will assign future practice times as the hour ends. At 7, the returning athletes will take the pool and show us their stuff. Many kids have gotten bigger, stronger, and improved their swimming skills either through practice, play or water polo. We will determine practice groups to the best of our ability on the spot. They will have a short warm up and practice to evaluate their learned skills. Spring is always tough because so few kids make it to practice early due to school and athletics. We usually see many more familiar faces as the summer approaches. It is this lack of knowledge as to actual team numbers that makes assigning practice squads difficult. With that in mind, I feel is always better to start with a lower level group early and move up later rather then start high only to be "demoted" as the teams' numbers increase with the easing of school commitments. Please keep that in mind as we assign groups and know that it is our goal to have each child advance regularly. Do not have assumptions as to where you child will end up, please, nor, lead them to an assumption as to where they will end up. Thanks, and see you 'round the pool. Coach Hamm Summer Season begins Tonight! Our Parent meeting starts at 6:30pm in the Large Group Information Room of the high school (far south end of building, opposite of pool, next to the library. Come see what's happening.
Practices begin next Monday with our orientation. New swimmers go 6-7, returning team members go 7-8. They will swim, they need their gear. Regular practices begin next Tuesday. See the calendar for times and schedules. |
