​Dear GHSC,
 
As if we haven't had enough hiccups this week, I have more!  I will try to be brief.
 
Our pool will remain closed all this week, and likely all of next week.  Last night's turn out was good but not great, 45 kids.  We will have practice again this evening in Holland, 6-8.  Minnows and Sharks start at 6.  Minnows are done at 6:45, sharks at 7:30.  Dolphins begin at 6:45, and end at 8.  If attendance is light, and any sharks wish to stay the extra 1/2 hour, I will set you up with your favorite drills and strokes.
 
WE WILL NOT PRACTICE FRIDAY.  Our schedule evolves, and we added Thursday knowing we missed too many days.  Friday before Christmas had always meant to be a play day, but our current pool really prevents playing (all shallow means no diving, somebody else's equipment we are not meant to use, and diving boards we are not allowed on).  SO NO FRIDAY PRACTICE.  Conveniently the Spring Lake Family pool is open from afternoon until 8pm, so if you or the kids have swimming on your brain, what better way to put any and all new skills to good use than a good romp in a play pool!!??
 
Next week:  As you will see by the forwarded emails below, our entries into the Jenison Holiday meet were not accepted.  I turned them in before the deadline, but the meet had already reached capacity.  I do not have enough experience in the USA world, and have never seen a meet reach capacity before.  It is a USA rule that limits meet sessions to 4 hours in duration.  So, firstly, I apologize for the inconvenience to you and for any heartache the kids will feel.  Secondly, that will alter next week's schedule slightly, we will practice W-Friday, 6-8 at the Holland facility.  And finally, we will make arrangements to either refund your meet entry fees, or credit your NORA account if you anticipate continued use of the NORA programs.
 
Again, my sincere apologies for the inconsistencies.  I realize how important maintaining schedules for kids is, and it pains me to be the catalyst for such change.  But, on that note, thank you all for your patience and support.  Let's do a little Dora and "Just Keep Swimming"!

The pool is undergoing necessary repairs and should be operational soon.  But tonight and tomorrow are out. So we will go to the Holland Aquatic Center to practice.  We have rented their auxiliary (the old) pool for 2 hours, 6-8pm.  Sorry, no time in the community play pool.
 
It is only 6 lanes, so practices will be cozy, and due to that, I will shuffle the groupings a little to maximize pool use.  I am not sure what we are walking into, so please everyone be a little flexible.  It is my hope that we can just get some good yards in, quick.

A pool update:
 
The pumps have been disassembled and replacement parts for ruined ones are ordered.  Reassembly and installation is yet to be determined.  But the immediate forecast is for no Grand Haven pool time this week.  We are currently discussing ways to divide our team and use generous offers from local pools and will let everyone know where we stand immediately after we know.
 
For today, no practices.
 
Plan on tomorrow, with locations and times to be determined.

Tonight's practice is cancelled.  There has been a pump failure at the pool and repair work is being done as I type.  We hope it is short term, but mechanical difficulties can take time.  Our status for the remainder of the week is to be determined.  We coaches and our pool supervisor are seeking alternate solutions should they be necessary.  You will be notified as soon as I know anything.
 
This situation is out of our hands and in the hands of the professional pool maintenance team, so please allow them to do their job.  If you need any information, please contact me, and I will address any of your concerns.
 
The fastest form of communication I have is Remind, our schools text messaging program.  To signup (and I hope each and every family does... in fact I may have signed you up - and you are welcome to leave the group at anytime if I over stepped) just send a text, "@mwilliamha" to 81010.  Or email mwilliamha@mail.remind.com, no need for a message nor a subject, just send  a blank email.
